Adrian Crook - Sailing Secretary

Following a short career in the merchant navy, Adrian completed over 30 years in the Fire Service. Adrian has been sailing since the age of 10 and, with his wife - Kristin, has competed at both national and international level. They now take part in both keel boat racing and cruising in their J120 Yacht Mojo. Adrian is an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and offers tuition at all levels, sail and power boat, through Weymouth Sailing School. He has been a member of RDYC since 2004 and has held a number of positions, most recently as Commodore. An active participant in Weymouth sailing, he currently chairs the Yacht Clubs Weymouth committee.

Kristin Crook - Commodore, Treasurer

Kristin has been involved in sailing and water sports since childhood. She has considerable dinghy and keelboat experience and has competed at national and international level. Kristin has been a member of RDYC since 2004. As a Chartered Accountant, running her own company, she has brought a great deal of financial expertise to the position of Treasurer over a number of years. Kristin was appointed as Commodore in January 2017 and is the first Lady Commodore in the Club's 142 year history.

Gareth Peaston - Cruising Sec, Trustee

Another of the club’s experienced mariners, Gareth served as a Master Mariner with Cunard and P&O.  After 40 years at sea, he retired in 2005 but still serves as a volunteer Master on the historic steamship SS Shieldhall.  A sailor from an early age, Gareth joined the Royal Dorset Yacht Club in 2002 and has held a number of positions including several years as Commodore.  Gareth now organises the Club’s cruises as well as taking part in many of them in his 40 foot sailing yacht with his wife Linda.

Linda Peaston - Minutes Secretary

Linda spent two years at sea with her husband Gareth until starting a family.  This was followed by occasional voyages and Linda now claims to be “a fair weather First Mate” on their yacht.  Having started her career as a secretary,  Linda was Social Secretary for the Club and is now the Minutes Secretary.

Ron Glover - Trustee

Ron has lived and worked in Weymouth all of his life, apart from a few years spent travelling the South West as relief Cinema Manager.  He joined the RDYC in 1970, and since this time has been an active member, supporting the club and serving on the Committee as Social Secretary for a period.

Graham Castell - Trustee

Graham served in the Royal Air Force as a navigator on Canberra's, spent many years in IT sales & marketing management prior to becoming a hotelier in Scotland & Portland.  He joined the RDYC in October 2002 and was appointed to the General Committee in 2004.  He has held positions of Rear Commodore and Vice Commodore with responsibilities for club maintenance, house & social, forward planning and treasurer before being appointed Commodore in March 2011.

Paul Medway - Trustee

A qualified surveyor, Paul worked in property management for a Brewery and the family Hotel group before founding his own firm of specialist Hotel Brokers in 1979. A member of the RDYC since 1998, General Committee in 2002 and Rear Commodore in 2006. Now retired, he spends most of his time sailing his 40ft yacht "Sawan".

Simon Doggett - Moorings Officer

After a career in the Whitehall Civil Service, Simon moved to Dorset, took early retirement and worked for Dorset County Council for a while, developing their adult social care website.  Now 'fully retired', with his wife, Sandra, and Labrador, Seadog, he spends as much time as possible cruising the South Coast and further afield in "Moody Miss".

Simon Doggett Martin

Martin Burgess - Rear Commodore, Hon. Secretary and Webmaster

Martin first sailed in the South China Sea when in the RAF at Singapore.  After a life long career as an electronic control systems engineer working in military and civil aviation, motor racing and various other arenas, he is now retired. Among Martin's other interests, he sails a 60 year old wooden classic, Wah Kong 2.

 

Leighton Grey - Membership Secretary

Leighton has been a member of the Royal Dorset Yacht Club since 2004 and first joined the committee in 2008. He has held successive posts as Membership and Motor Boat secretary and has also served as Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore and Commodore. Leighton is a committed motor boater spending most of the summer cruising the south coast and the coasts of the Channel Islands and France.
